People ask me all the time what is my favorite apple. And I am here to declare today on April 1st, 2025 that my favorite apple of all time isβ¦..
The beautiful Red Delicious apple!!!!!!!
Congrats to Red Delicious on being the apple of my eye.
But as we all know, making any major announcement on April 1st is about as meaningful as Red Delicious truly is to my life.
In all seriousness, Red Delicious has never been my favorite apple. When I was a kid, Golden Delicious was my top choice, but right now, I canβt pick a favorite. There are just too many that I love!!!!
I do rag on Red Delicious a lot, but itβs an apple that used to be pretty decent. Not great, but definitely decent. Iβve had some of the older strains of Red Delicious that didnβt have that "perfect apple-for-the-teacher" look. The original name was βHawkeye,β and Iβve tried that strain a couple of times. Itβs not bad at all. It doesnβt have the bitter skin that many dislike about Red Delicious, and it looks quite differentβdefinitely not as red.
