What Apples I Got Yesterday Near Mt. Hood
In this newsletter, I am going to share a little about an apple orchard I visited yesterday near Mt. Hood and Hood River, Oregon.
Yesterday I finally made it out to my first apple orchard of the season. We took a drive around Mt. Hood in Oregon to make a stop at Kiyokawa Orchards. It was an amazing drive. This orchard has been on my radar for years as it had come up several times when I have been doing research about different apple varieties.
We went there to pick some apples as well as to buy some pre-picked. They were all the same price - $1.79/lb except for the Honeycrisp, Cox’s Orange Pippin, Cortland, and Pink Pearl which were $2.49/lb.
The only apple I was interested in picking was the Swiss Gourmet. This is a crisp, sweet-tart apple that has great flavor. It’s one that I have had several times before as it’s a popular one grown by apple orchards that grow tons of varieties.
We picked this first and then went under their tent to select from the already picked apples they had.
Here is the list of apples that I got at the orchard. Those ones with the links are ones that I have already spoke of on my blog, Eat Like No One Else.
