The Unheralded Apples #3
In this newsletter, I am bringing you the next part in a series on apples that you may not have heard of yet, but deserve some love!
Hey everyone, I know I am a day late with the newsletter this week. My family and I have been staying in a long term AirBNB in Utah since August 1st and yesterday was our check out day. We are back in our camper now full time and preparing to head out on our next adventure in Idaho in a few weeks.
The next installment in my series of apples varieties that you should try out one day is the Prima Apple.
This is an early season apple, ripening entire month before the Red Delicious apple (not that I would want you to buy a Red Delicious ever). The issue with early season apples is that they tend to not store very well, going soft fast. And that is the case with this one as well.
But if you find them growing at an orchard and pick one off the tree when it’s at it’s peakness, it’s a chef’s kiss moment, something you may only have if you pick them yourself. They are juicy, sweet with enough tartness to make the flavor interesting. And when they start getting too soft to eat, they are great for applesauce.

I had that moment in September 2021 when I was at an apple orchard in Maine. I shared about the experience in one of my Stories from the Apple Orchard post which is for premium members to read but you can see a preview of the post below.

Research the Lemonade apple, so if you see it in stores you can be ready or not to try them if they sound up your alley!
