NEW! Grocery Store Guides for Apples
Our Apple Club emails have now become "What Apple to Eat Today" on the Substack platform. In this newsletter, I talk about buying apples in bags vs loose and also about the new grocery store guides.
Bags or by the pound?
While I like to select all my own apples, the advantage of bags is that in a lot of cases the smaller sized apples are in the bag. I like smaller sized apples for myself and for my youngest.
Do you like to buy apples in bags or loose by the pound? You can share your comments by clicking on the comment button at the top of this email mail or find the comment button at the end. This new format for the emails makes it easier for you to share your thoughts.
I picked up some Pink Lady apples at Winco Foods in Orem, UT along with some Cosmic Crisp I bought loose. They don’t have a huge selection of apples so these were the best of the day - don’t get me wrong I like a good Cosmic Crisp. Anyway, the Pink Lady apples were not super crisp. Still edible but a bit disappointing. You can’t always tell by just looking at the apple if it will be crisp or not.
I usually don’t find that problem with Pink Lady this time of year. It’s always hard to know how long the apples had been sitting out. When choosing apples you try to do the best that you can but even I sometimes get apples that are less than ideal.
If you are a Pink Lady fan, check out this newer apple variety called Wild Twist that is a cross between a Pink Lady and Honeycrisp.
Right now I am working getting up guides you can download to help you shop for apples at all the major grocery stores. The first one that I have up is for Costco. It goes through some tips on buying apples at Costco as well as what types of apples you can expect to find there throughout the year.
What grocery store would you like me to do next? Put your request in here.
Until Friday, February 9th, I am offering you a chance to check out the guide for FREE that will normally be for my paid subscribers only. So check that out now. There is also a free 7-day trial you can sign up for to see what is in store for you as a paid subscriber and a supporter of this project. Your support means a lot to me.
If you have any questions, please feel free to let me know. I hoped you enjoyed today’s newsletter. See ya next week!
