Best Apple Cider
In this newsletter, I am going to share with some of the best apple ciders that I have had from apple orchards and the grocery store.
Ned Flanders once said “If it's clear and yella', you've got juice there, fella. If it's tangy and brown, you're in cider town.”
I love going down to cider town! The best place to get cider is directly from an apple orchard but I will even drink it from the grocery store as well. Let me share with you today my favorite ciders that have ever touched my lips. I will give you a chance to share yours too in the comments section.
First up is the apple cider from one of the best, most charming apple orchards in this country, Johnston Fruit Farm in Swanton, Ohio. As you can see from the above photo, they offer different blends of apple cider including one that is heritage cider mix, a single varietal Wickson Crab, and a Honeycrisp cider. They have different caps for the containers so you know which is which in the store. The selection varies through the season.
One year, we got to visit the orchard with some dear friends and share some donuts and we each buy some cider to share around the table. Such amazing flavor.
In September of 2021, we got to visit Vermont for the first time. And I was super excited to find this apple cider at Scott Farm Orchard. The amazing thing about this cider is that it includes ginger and get this, they grow the ginger themselves! And to top it all off, the cider is sold in a glass mason jar. I have been missing Vermont ever since!
Now let’s talk about what I have seen in the grocery store. Starting with this popular cider from Trader Joe’s
While not as good as that ginger cider from Vermont, the Trader Joe’s one that is spiced is nice store option. People love to serve this one warm.
North Coast Organic out of California has a Sugar Bee apple sauce and a Sugar Bee apple juice, although I would be willing to except it as a cider. If you love Sugar Bee apples this is one you need to look for.
Lastly, I wanted to share these flavored apple cider from Riveridge. I was excited to see them in 2023 when I was in Utah because I missed out on actually getting any cider from my home state of Michigan.
The offerings were a Honeycrisp Blend, Salted Caramel, and Pumpkin Spice.
